About the Standing Commission
The Lancet Standing Commission was initiated soon after the publication of the report in the Lancet on a citizen centered health system for India. The Standing Commission’s mission is to promote, implement, evaluate and publish reports related to the implementation of these reforms.
We anticipate a range of activities related to realizing the goals of a citizen centered health system, including:
• Disseminating the findings of the Commission to diverse audiences including policy makers, community members and health providers
• Monitoring the performance of each district using the UHC district index developed by the Commission and evaluating the reasons for improvement in the index (or worsening).
• Implementing the reforms in selected states/districts and evaluating the challenges, opportunities, costs and impacts
• Developing operational protocols for each of the reform pathways
• Conducting a repeat of the Citizens Survey to monitor changes in the patterns of utilization, experience and expectations of the health system
The Standing Commission invites any stakeholder who is engaged in activities which are aligned with the reform pathways to join this mission.
